A SUNDAY TREK

It was 6.30am on a Sunday morning, 17 Sep. I promised to go trekking with my friend, SP. We started our trek from MacRitchie Reservoir at 8.40am all the way to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The weather was cooling and there was not a drop of rain. So, I did not have to use my disposable rain coat. The walk was easy.

After completing 7.5km, we moved to Bukit Timah area. The grassland was soft but we had to watch out for mountain bikers.

Bukit Timah reserve had many tall trees making the forest less dense. I enjoyed the greenery here very much. But the steep steps up the summit (about 163 m) was quite a torture for me. I had to climb up very slowly. Instead of taking the steps, I walked on the side so that I did not have to lift up my legs.

We reached the summit around 12.30pm. Did a bit of stretching and felt a sense of achievement. Yes, we had just conquered Bukit Timah Hill.

Before leaving Bukit Timah Nature Reserve at 12.30pm, SP took me to an "unheard" Hindhede Nature Park. SP told me there was a big lake. He was right. There was a big "quarry" lake with emerald water. The emerald water reminded me of Lake Louise at Banff National Park in Canada.

I reflected on this joyful trekking experience. It was a very tiring day for me but it did prepare me for my Chiangmai trek in Oct this year.
